With the increasing importance and power of the internet, along with an everchanging understanding concernign the nature of “christianity”, many churches have been faced with the challenge of describing themselves to the general public.  Some have taken a prompt from the business world and prepared a “mission statement”.  A mission statement is designed to give a clear, concise declaration of the purpose of a particular group.  Businesses have used them to great advantage for years – why not the church?

 Some choose evangelism as their central theme: “Go ye therefore and teach all nations . . . (Mt 28:19a).”  Others describe themselves as servants to those in need: “True religion and undefiled before the Father is this, to care for the fatherless and widows in their affliction . . .
