The Privilege and Problems of Public Prayer

          Lord, Teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples (Luke 11:1) . . . The followers and close associates of Jesus clearly saw something in the Master they wanted to share, when it came to the subject of prayer.  As might be apparent from their question, it was not unusual for Rabbis to teach their followers the proper approach to seeking the audience and attention of Almighty God.  John taught his disciples to pray (unfortunately, scripture does not record that prayer).  Jesus taught His disciples, as well, using a prayer that has earned many titles; The Lord’s Prayer, the Model Prayer, and the Our Father (taken from the first two words of the prayer in English), are the most prominent.  This prayer is recorded in two of the four Gospels (Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:1-4).
